Total Quack Up 2! Writing Competition

The Total Quack Up 2! Writing Competition is for you!

Last year Total Quack Up! was a HUGE success. Penguin Random House is once again offering the opportunity for a young writer (12 years and under) to have his or her story published in Total Quack Up 2! alongside funny short stories by some of our favourite Aussie authors and illustrated by a well known children's book illustrator (stay tuned!)

Total Quack Up! is a wonderful initiative by authors Sally Rippin and Adrian Beck. Once again authors will be generously donating their stories and the royalties from the book will go to the Dymocks Children’s Charities to help children who don’t have access to books. What a win-win! When you buy a copy of Total Quack Up 2! you can have fun reading the stories and know that you have also helped other kids have access to books to read and enjoy too.

‘Sally and I will be reading every single entry and most of all we want kids to make us laugh out loud! The stories can be about anything—they can be embarrassing, possibly spooky or even a little gross! And personally, I love a twist, so I’m hoping for some surprise endings.’ (Adrian Beck)

It could be YOUR story....

Your funny short story must be a minimum of 500 words
and submitted online
 HERE by Monday, June 17

    Hi Miss Y!

It’s Elena here, I’ve always been an avid writer and reader. Writing humorous stories is probably not one of my favourite genres to write, yet I want to write more than one. Do you think I would be able to submit more than one? 🦙🦄😋

      Hi Elena,

It's great to hear from you! I'm thrilled to hear you're thinking of entering a story and stepping out of your genre comfort zone!

You can submit more than one story. You could write your stories and then ask a few people to read them to help you decide which one is your BEST story to submit. It's up to you!

      Good luck, Elena!

    Hi Miss Y,

I have submitted one story so so far and I am working on another. Humorous stories are challenging. What do most kids even find funny? For now I am reading up on my YABBA books because... I could get a golden ticket to the YABBA awards! I am super excited, yet nervous. Hope you are doing well.

      Hi Elena,

Well done on submitting a story! Good luck! Some of the girls at my school are writing some funny stories to submit too. I had a big laugh at one story at lunchtime today. I'd love to have Adrian and Sally's job reading all of the entries. I'm sure there will be lots of creative and funny stories.

I hope you keep up your reading to earn a Golden Ticket for the YABBA Awards because I will be there and I would love to see you and the other lucky students from St Martin's! Camberwell Girls Grammar is this year's host for the YABBA Awards and it's where I am working as their Junior School teacher librarian! There's lots to organise for the day and it's going to be so exciting! SO many authors to meet....

I am well thank you and I hope you are too. Enjoy the rest of the term and keep reading!
